If your kids weren't raised on a farm, it's likely they've never had the experience of milking a cow. Well, the Cuyahoga County Fair has the answer. Bring your kids into the Commercial Building, where you'll find our Milking Cow. She's a very placid cow, largely because she's made of plastic, but she does produce milk, which is kind of miraculous when you think about it. Your kids will have an udderly fantastic time, so bring a bowl of dry cereal, and have at it.
Carl Jara is a lifetime resident of the greater Cleveland area. He attended high school knowing full well that he wanted to become an artist--taking and retaking every art class at school. In an act of desperation, his art teacher sent him to work with the stage crew. There he met Tom Morrison, then a firefighter and President For life of the International Association of Sand Castle Builders. Tom took Carl under his wing, teaching him the basics of both sandsculpting and business. Carl moved on to study Fine Arts at the Myers School of Art in Akron, Ohio, studying Illustration and Graphic Design, all the while working with Tom and being introduced to a community of professional sand sculptors he never knew existed.
When it came time for his Bachelor of Fine Arts exhibition, he realized that illustration and graphic design were not his true calling. What he did have was a desire to sculpt. His fifteen foot sand sculpture in the school gallery graced the front pages of local newspapers and was broadcast across the region on the evening news. It was the defining moment that launched his career.
He now holds nine World Championship medals, at least three dozen medals from other contests, and has been featured twice on Sand Blasters on the Travel Channel. He's worked and competed in eleven countries, more than two dozen states, and continues to carve out his living in sand.
In addition to sculpting, he accepted the position of Exhibits Artisan/Technician at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, where he gets to use his creative akills in a completely different manner. He's helped install Sue, the largest T-Rex ever found, as well as articulated Lucy, one of the oldest hominid fossils yet discovered. So if you're ever at the Museum, give him a shout... you might just get a behind-the-scenes tour!

Come on out for Harness Racing at the Cuyahoga County Fair on Wednesday, August 8th, 2018. Pick a pony, then pony up for some parimutuel betting. There will be at least 16 races, with over 79 horses, and even a limited number of stick pony races for the kids. Bob Roberts is a native Clevelander who grew up in Willowick. He knew he wanted to be a sportswriter when his father took him to an Indians game and he asked who those guys were typing on a countertop behind home plate in the upper deck of old Municipal Stadium.
"They're sportswriters," said his dad. "That's their job."
Roberts began his career at the Mentor Morning Monitor before heading over to The Willoughby/Lake County News-Herald where he was named sports editor in 1970 at the age of 22. Roberts was hired by The Cleveland Press in 1973 and returned to The News-Herald when the Press folded in 1982. The Cleveland Plain Dealer hired Bob in 1985 and he remained there for over 20 years before accepting a buyout in 2006.
Roberts has won numerous awards. They include best harness story in North America, best Preakness story, a Golden Quill for feature writing in western Pennsylvania, and more than 10 state-wide writing awards in Ohio.
Various representatives from Hoopernova will be on hand all week, teaching Hula Hoop technique before their performances, including night glow hooping shows. The Sea Lion Splash is a unique show that will have crowds cheering and laughing. The show is an educational show with a Splash. This is the only show in the U.S. to feature both California and South American sea lions.
The idea of the sea lion show originated when Squalus started taking in beached sea lions who were unable to be returned to the wild due to age, injuries or the inability to provide food for themselves. Squalus provides a permanent home for these sea lions for the rest of their lives. This show is the only traveling sea lion show in the United States. Squalus, Inc. ensures that the sea lions have more square footage of water per animal in the show than most sea lions have in zoos. The animals' welfare and comfort is always placed first. Their transportation was designed specifically for the maximum comfort of the sea lions.

Glass artist, Ryan Gothrup, has been an educator of glassblowing for over 16 years. From youth starting at the age of 10 years old to elderly and students with learning differences, he has taught glassblowing to a wide variety of students. After receiving his MFA, he spent six years teaching at the college level and for the past seven years has been using his mobile glass trailer to educate on location.

Fast forwarding to today, Drew’s career has skyrocketed and his talents have enabled him to acquire an impressive client list ranging from professional sports teams such as The Cleveland Indians and The Cleveland Browns to some of the nations most recognized corporations such as Progressive, L’OREAL and Macy’s.
Now Drew performs non-stop with more than 250 performances each year ranging from private parties and festivals to large corporate functions, Drew is considered to be one of the busiest and most in demand magicians in his area.
In his spare time, he enjoys creating art in other mediums such as photography and painting, as well as building large illusions for other magicians around the globe.
He looks forward to each and every performance and hopes that the audience can not only enjoy the magic on an unimaginable level but to also be inspired to go after their own goals and aspirations just as he has done.

Wade Henry hails from a long line of freedom-fighting Irish settlers who homesteaded in Manitoba in the 1700's and 1800's. It was in this Canadian West that Wade started training for his life as a performing artist.
Wade's inclination towards danger became apparent when, as a toddler, he was found riding bareback on his grandmother's german shephard.
Not long after the family's move to Pocatello, Idaho, Wade's father—perhaps to spare area canines—gave him a pony for Chistmas. His trusty steed at the ready, Wade adopted a "Cowboy Spirit," which he describes as: "...a certain attitude that most ideally fits the American man. It includes integrity, honesty and courage...along with a high esteem for family, a need for personal liberty, a spiritual element, and of course, a sense of humor. Further, the cowboy is a bit of a show-off. He values his own unique skills and abilities, and enjoys testing and improving them—whether in front of a rodeo crowd, or many miles from town as the sun sets."
Something of a nomad, Wade returned to Canada and spent long, frigid winters as a hockey goalie in the Great Lakes region of SW Ontario. His coach had him throw rubber balls around to improve his reflexes. Soon a professional juggler was born.
Honors Business Degree in hand, and now in his early twenties, Wade took an unconventional turn and decided to travel the world on a shoestring. For a time, he settled into working a farm in New Zealand. Calling home, he informed his parents that after years of academic toil and preparation for the corporate world, he had decided to return to the land - like a true Henry.
After the harvest, Wade continued his travels for another year—through Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and China and back to Canada. Necessity being the mother of invention, he funded these travels as a world-class street performer, delivering shows on streets, town squares and harborfront areas of various Australian and Canadian cities.
Wade's travels as a performer are partially documented in his popular adventure novel "The Greatest Finale".
Wade spent the next several years developing and polishing his skills as a performing artist. He is an accomplished juggler, unicyclist, ropewalker, fire eater, equilibriast, magician, speaker and comic. His most important and useful skill, however, may be his ability to handle people and audiences.
Given Wade's affinity for the land, he is naturally at home at county fairs, which serve to celebrate farming and agriculture. For Wade, these fairs are peopled by folks who understand the value of humor and a little high-spirited showing-off. Brantt KingBee Hamilton (Harmonica/Vocals) is a veteran of the Cleveland Blues Scene, having played Northeast Ohio clubs, festivals and events for 30 years. He started out at the age of 19 with Princess Ladia's Blue Knights from Chicago when they wanted an authentic amplified harmonica. He played every Sunday night in the Cleveland Flats as a featured special guest of Bill Dawg and the Extrordinaires, then fronted several of his own bands for several years.
He co-founded the KingBees, bringing a blues element into a big band sound that has been part of Cleveland culture for 25 years. Now he is returning to his roots playing footstomping, juke joint, party-and-dance-all-night blues, swing, and rockabilly.
Jimmy Lee (Guitar/Vocals) -- Has been fronting his own Jimmy Lee Experiment on the Cleveland scene for the last decade, while also performing solo and performing duo gigs with wife. He loves playing blues, rock, country, rockabilly, classics. His grooves are reminiscent of the great Vaughn brothers and deep blues like Jimmy Reed, with a touch of West Coast Swing and some down-home country.
Adriane Bennett (Bass/Vocals) is a fresh face in the Cleveland music scene, but not a newcomer. Returning after some time off, She is a regular at many jams, playing nearly every night. Her love of rockin' blues and swing music led her to a place at the heart of the Backstreet Blues Band.
Bubba Ruscin (Drums/Vocals) is the solid backbeat of the Backstreet Blues Band. He cut his teeth in the Travis Haddix band for two years, then on to 12 years with Frankie Starr and for the past six years has been with blues/rock outfit Mojo Honey. His ability to improvise and his bluesy, growly voice make him much more than a drummer... he makes every band better because he is part of it.
The four met at local gigs and jams, particularly Cleveland Blues Society events. They decided to form the Backstreet Blues Band to bring their love of blues, swing, rockabilly, and country into a houserockin', foot-stompin', juke joint-thumpin' BLUES band from the backstreets of Cleveland.

Given Wade's affinity for the land, he is naturally at home at county fairs, which serve to celebrate farming and agriculture. For Wade, these fairs are peopled by folks who understand the value of humor and a little high-spirited showing-off. Wade has performed over 6,000 shows and continues his prolific career at this year's Cuyahoga County Fair.
Glass artist, Ryan Gothrup, has been an educator of glassblowing for over 16 years. From youth starting at the age of 10 years old to elderly and students with learning differences, he has taught glassblowing to a wide variety of students. After receiving his MFA, he spent six years teaching at the college level and for the past seven years has been using his mobile glass trailer to educate on location.
5-7 pieces of hand blown glass will be made daily. Pieces will be offered for sale in The Sustainability Center.
Drew Murray is a magician, creator, artist and more. He has been wowing audiences since he was just 6 years old. After seeing a magician at a summer festival, he has turned an after school hobby into a successful business.
At 10 years old he began performing for small events at churches, libraries and family parties. During grade school he was known as the “magic guy” constantly amazing his peers with magic in talent shows and school functions.
Fast forwarding to today, Drew’s career has skyrocketed and his talents have enabled him to acquire an impressive client list ranging from professional sports teams such as The Cleveland Indians and The Cleveland Browns to some of the nations most recognized corporations such as Progressive, L’OREAL and Macy’s.
Now Drew performs non-stop with more than 250 performances each year ranging from private parties and festivals to large corporate functions, Drew is considered to be one of the busiest and most in demand magicians in his area.
In his spare time, he enjoys creating art in other mediums such as photography and painting, as well as building large illusions for other magicians around the globe.
He looks forward to each and every performance and hopes that the audience can not only enjoy the magic on an unimaginable level but to also be inspired to go after their own goals and aspirations just as he has done.
Drew graduated from Ohio State in fall of 2014 and will continue to live his dream of being a professional magician.

The idea of the sea lion show originated when Squalus started taking in beached sea lions who were unable to be returned to the wild due to age, injuries or the inability to provide food for themselves. Squalus provides a permanent home for these sea lions for the rest of their lives. This show is the only traveling sea lion show in the United States. Squalus, Inc. ensures that the sea lions have more square footage of water per animal in the show than most sea lions have in zoos. The animals' welfare and comfort is always placed first. Colonel Bubblemaker's Fantastic Flea Circus is a complete circus complete with a grand parade, tightrope walkers, trapeze artists, a death defying high dive as well as a "human cannonball" and other acts, all contained within a suitcase. The performers in this amazing circus are tiny trained fleas. We even have the worlds strongest flea Hugo and an equestrian team of fleas riding on gnats.
Kurt Freeman is a 25 year old Cleveland native and up-and-coming country artist. Born and raised on sports and music, Kurt has steadily progressed from singing and playing guitar in high school with his church group to pursuing his dreams of writing and recording his own music. His soulful, smoky voice and a genuine passion for the genre make for a unique and authentic sound. Be sure to check out his debut single Texas. We're also excited to note that the timing of Kurt's appearance at the Fair couldn't be better as it coincides with the release week of his debut, self-titled EP, "Kurt Freeman," available to the publicon Spotify, iTunes, etc. on August 10th.
The Chardon Polka Band is known for being innovative and extremely adaptive with the ability to please almost any audience; whether it be 20-somethings at a college hang-out or the patrons of a local senior center. In their nine years together, the band has made a name for itself by adding a colorful twist to the traditional genre of the polka.
The Chardon Polka Band is not your average polka band. They are a group that brings new life and energy to this traditional music. While the group has an extensive catalogue of traditional polkas, they are not afraid to bring their own tunes into the mix along with polka-pop covers of artists like Justin Bieber and Lady Ga Ga. The band got their start in the Cleveland music scene; playing countless area fairs, festivals, and venues. While remaining very active in Cleveland, the band can often be found taking their music on the road and performing at a variety of events across the east. Stee Bax is based out of Solon, Ohio, she has performed at professional sporting events, live concerts, conventions, in music videos, photo shoots, and more. She performs single hoop dances with fire, LED, and day-taped hoops. Angelina Rose has spread her own unique combination of dance and light painting throughout the Great Lakes region and beyond. Bob Roberts is a native Clevelander who grew up in Willowick. He knew he wanted to be a sportswriter when his father took him to an Indians game and he asked who those guys were typing on a countertop behind home plate in the upper deck of old Municipal Stadium.
