Event Date:
Mon, August 8, 2016 (All day)
Event Category:

Seth was diagnosed at 21 months as autistic and at age 18 was evaluated resulting in a career recommendation of "dry mopping".  At age 20 he took his first art class and by 23 was a featured artist on The Today Show.  Now 33, Seth has exhibited at the Cleveland Clinic, The Natural History Museum, hospitals, museums and universities throughout America.  In 2011, Seth came in first place in a world-wide United Nations competition and his art was placed on a postal stamp to promote autism awareness.  Internationally he has exhibited in Galapagos, Cayman, Curacao, Kiev and The United Nations.  In August Seth and his mother Debra will spend 30 days in France while his art is exhibited in several provinces across France.

We will move into The Sustainability Center after the opening ceremony to cut the ribbon and open the art exhibit.  Cake will be served in celebration of the exhibit.  Seth and his mother Debra will be on site to meet and greet visitors.  Debra will give a brief presentation on Seth's "journey into art" and the challenges and rewards of autism. As it turns out, two of Seth's favorite things are amusement parks and wind turbines.  We got that!

If your kids weren't raised on a farm, it's likely they've never had the experience of milking a cow.  Well, the Cuyahoga County Fair has the answer.  Bring your kids into the Sheep Barn, where just to the right of the entrance, you'll see our Milking Cow.  She's a very placid cow, largely because she's made out of plastic, but she does produce milk, which is kind of miraculous when you think about it.  Your kids will have an udderly fantastic time, so bring a bowl of dry cereal, and have at it.

Johnny Peers introduction to the circus came at an early age.  His father ran a concession stand on Ringling Brothers Circus where johnny helped out.  While working wth his father, he continually managed to sneak away and watch the clowns... and decided to become one.  He joined the Ringling Clown College, graduated, and joined the show.  Johnny got his first pup from a Humane Society which quickly became part of the show.  He continued to pick up dogs and developed his show. Each has their own character and attributes, providing for a range of exciting and talented performances, such as jumping rope, climbing ladders, knocking Johnny down, and of course walking all over him. Johnny Peers Muttville Commix is a menagerie of mongrels, several of which were acquired some from shelters and rescues. Any dog can be a good dog.  Any animal likes kindness, attention, and affection.  With a Charlie Chaplin like shuffle, Peers plays the fall guy to his mutts.  The flawless comic timing, choreography and uncanny collaboration produce a truly great show.  The Muttville Commix  television appearances have included David Letterman, Regis and Kathy Lee, Primetime Live, Travels with Harry and Seinfeld.  Johnny has presented his hilarious comic canine routine from coast to coast and on four continents. He and his doggie ensemble have toured with Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey, the Big Apple Circus, Shrine Circuses, fairs, Monte Carlo Circus Festival, Busch Gardens and Disneyland.

Tory) holds down the bass and has been with the band since the start. Nate Seidel joined the group a couple of years ago to add another dimension to the sound, keeping the time on various percussion. Whether writing songs about their lives, events, or songs just for fun, everything comes from the heart.

Second Hand Dogs are big supporters of local live music and host local open mics for new and well established artists.

Second Hand Dogs has always had a long standing motto of  “A Little Bit Of Something For Everyone”  from the covers performed in their music sets, right down to their original “My Pirate Song” written for children of all ages.

Texas Rattlesnake Demonstration
Event Date:
Tue, August 9, 2016, 1:30pm to 2:00pm
Event Category:

When parents and caregivers bring their children to see the West Texas Rattlesnake Exhibit, they are sure to learn lessons that will last a lifetime.  The goal of the demonstration is to ensure that audiences are delighted and entertained, but most importantly, that they gain an appreciation for these wondrous creatures.

The demonstration starts out with the snake wrangler, wearing snake-proof chaps, in a specially designed glass enclosure with rattlesnakes--fangs and venom intact--slithering freely around his feet.  Once the wrangler has greeted the audience, he then lifts the rattlers individually (with specially designed snake tongs and hooks) to introduce each one to the crowd.  During the introduction the snake wrangler clarifies that were it not for him, these rattlesnakes would in all likelihood be boots and belts by now.

With a little assistance, one rattler does a perfect impression of a "caduceus" (the American Medical Association insignia)... a perfect seque for Dave's cautionary anti-drug message.

He then demonstrates how to use hooks, tongs, and tubes when dealing with venomous snakes.  By the end of this segment the audience is educated in the art and practice of safely handling rattlesnakes, and are shown how veterinarians, laboratory workers and research workers all handle venomous snakes. During the course of the demonstration, those in attendance learn about the rattle, age and the gender of the rattlesnake.

The show concludes with a spectacular display of a rattler actually striking and popping a balloon with lightning speed.

FIGURE 8 RACING

Figure 8 RacingThis is a race where every lap takes drivers to the crossroads of destruction. To finish first, you need to think fast and out-maneuver your competition! Take home a trophy and $500 cash prize for winning this event!  "Championship Double Figure "8" Racing®" is a form of action racing developed by JM Productions a few years ago using compact cars to enhance the excitement for drivers and spectators.

This form of Figure 8 race, unlike others, is held in front of the grandstand on the racetrack in a minimum are of 45 feet wide x 100 feet long.

Drivers need to out-think and out-maneuver their competitors in order to win. Because of the challenge this event presents, its popularity is growing rapidly. Experience the motor mayhem as JM PRODUCTIONS' "CHAMPIONSHIP DOUBLE FIGURE "8" RACING ®" is featured at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds on Sunday, August 14h!

This spectacular entertainment event will feature local daredevils competing for the coveted "Championship" title, trophy and prize money.

Wade Henry

Wade Henry

Wade Henry
Event Date:
Sun, August 14, 2016, 4:30pm to 5:00pm
Event Category:

Wade Henry hails from a long line of freedom-fighting Irish settlers who homesteaded in Manitoba in the 1700's and 1800's. It was in this Canadian West that Wade started training for his life as a performing artist.

Wade's inclination towards danger became apparent when, as a toddler, he was found riding bareback on his grandmother's german shephard.

Not long after the family's move to Pocatello, Idaho, Wade's father—perhaps to spare area canines—gave him a pony for Chistmas. His trusty steed at the ready, Wade adopted a "Cowboy Spirit," which he describes as: "...a certain attitude that most ideally fits the American man. It includes integrity, honesty and courage...along with a high esteem for family, a need for personal liberty, a spiritual element, and of course, a sense of humor. Further, the cowboy is a bit of a show-off. He values his own unique skills and abilities, and enjoys testing and improving them—whether in front of a rodeo crowd, or many miles from town as the sun sets."

Something of a nomad, Wade returned to Canada and spent long, frigid winters as a hockey goalie in the Great Lakes region of SW Ontario. His coach had him throw rubber balls around to improve his reflexes. Soon a professional juggler was born.

Honors Business Degree in hand, and now in his early twenties, Wade took an unconventional turn and decided to travel the world on a shoestring. For a time, he settled into working a farm in New Zealand. Calling home, he informed his parents that after years of academic toil and preparation for the corporate world, he had decided to return to the land - like a true Henry.

After the harvest, Wade continued his travels for another year—through Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and China and back to Canada. Necessity being the mother of invention, he funded these travels as a world-class street performer, delivering shows on streets, town squares and harborfront areas of various Australian and Canadian cities.

Wade's travels as a performer are partially documented in his popular adventure novel "The Greatest Finale".

Wade spent the next several years developing and polishing his skills as a performing artist. He is an accomplished juggler, unicyclist, ropewalker, fire eater, equilibriast, magician, speaker and comic. His most important and useful skill, however, may be his ability to handle people and audiences.

Given Wade's affinity for the land, he is naturally at home at county fairs, which serve to celebrate farming and agriculture. For Wade, these fairs are peopled by folks who understand the value of humor and a little high-spirited showing-off. Wade has performed over 6,000 shows and continues his prolific career at this year's Cuyahoga County Fair.

The Demolition DerbySo you made it this far. The blue book estimate on your vehicle may seem generous, and the trunk space may be limited, but the little car that could is still running. If you've survived the gauntlet of preliminary round destruction, and come out the other side, engine humming and wheels still turning, you now have a chance at the Championship! We are talking about a $1,000 cash prize and trophy! It’s a big trophy too. Go for the win!

Various representatives from Hoopernova will be on hand all week, teaching Hula Hoop technique before their performances, including night glow hooping shows.  Fortunately, two of the best hoopers in the world are from the Cleveland area: Stee Bax and Angelina Rose (performing in the video below).  You will be amazed what each can do with a hula hoop.

Stee Bax is based out of Solon, Ohio, she has performed at professional sporting events, live concerts, conventions, in music videos, photo shoots, and more. She performs single hoop dances with fire, LED, and day-taped hoops. Additionally, Stee Bax hosts fitness demonstrations on Hula Hooping, so if you're looking for a good way to work off those elephant ears, look no further.

Angelina Rose has spread her own unique combination of dance and light painting throughout the Great Lakes region and beyond. In between her world travels, she teaches children of all ages Hoop Dance at a local Parma studio. Find out more at the Hula Hoop lessons that will be at the Cuyahoga County fair this year!

For nearly twenty-five years Grand Stage Illusionist and Master Magician John Steven Bloom has been wowing audiences and garnering critical acclaim for his special blend of magic, humor and family entertainment. Touring, public speaking and giving back to the community adds to the appeal of this already multi-faceted performer.

With a flexible show that crosses demographics Mr. Bloom has appeared with rock legends Alice Cooper, Neal Schon and Kevin Cronin, comedian'Weird Al' Yankovic and country stars and actors such as Pam Tillis and Billy Bob Thornton, to name a few. John has been seen on international stages, headlined at the Texas Station Casino in Las Vegas and has been featured on statewide televised programs. Most enjoyable, perhaps, are the many opportunities for his full-length. fully-staged productions in local and regional performance venues which include his entire family.

While John is proud of many achievements within his craft he is most pleased with having been the first magic act accepted into both the Greater Columbus Arts Council and the Ohio Arts Council's Fee Support/Ohio Artists on Tour roster. In addition, he is an Ohio Performer's Showcase feature act and is regularly requested by Fortune 500 companies as a motivational speaker. His ability to meld magic and music into product promotion has boosted customer service for WalMart, Con-Agra Foods and Schering-Key labs, among others.

Mr. Bloom is a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians, IBM Ring 161 in Akron (and 10th year as Ring president), the Society of American Magicians, the prestigious Magic Circle of London, England and is a lifetime member of both the International Magic Society and the Magician's Alliance of Eastern States.
